What a great site!! I have been interested in LTA ever since watching the Goodyear Blimp and visiting the remains of the old blimp hangers at NAS Richmond while growing up in Miami. This is a site that is long over due.

While my unit was "Training" at Ft Dix, N.J. prior to deploying to Iraq, I had the great opportunity to explore NAS Lakehurst as we were keeping our Apaches there. Due to the lack of space at FT Dix (and the refusal of the Air Force to have our birds on the McGuire side) we operated out of NAS Lakehurst, taking up residence out in Hangers 5 & 6. Until you have been in one of these hangers, you can not begin to grasp the incredible size of them. And these are not even as big as Hanger 1! As you drive up, Hgr 1 is so huge, it does not seem real.
I have included some of the photos from our visit.

Great stuff! Welcome aboard! :)

Things have been really slow here but we are getting started. This is a very small "niche" of the scale modeling hobby so there aren't huge numbers of people into it.

I have been busy writing a book and tending to my science fiction modeling site, but when I get caught up I plan to get back to work on some airship stuff. I have drawings for early Zeps in the works and am anxious to get some scratchbuilds going. . .

Apparently the Navy is getting back into the LTA business after a lay-off of 40+ years or so. They've bought a small blimp and put it together at Lakehurst to use as a training ship for future operations. http://www.nlhs.com/photo.htm
