Very impressive! And amazing to see such a "small" model actually fly!

Wow, that's amazing! I would guess a volume of 75 ltr. That would mean it's not heavier than 75grams. quite sportive... Anybody know this chap?

I am flattered by the interest shown by 'static' scale modelers. Yes it is fully buoyant (on helium), has a rigid frame and a single internal gas cell, and is radio controlled. Volume is 90 ltrs. Using the plans I posted here, I can say this model is accurate to scale (1/120th) to the millimetre. The one deviation is the aft propeller, which is well oversize, a concession to flight performance (it does about 4 knots). I built this about 10 years ago, with the technology of the day that is the best I could do. I am currently (among other projects) working on a model LZ-120 (Bodensee) which I hope to get down to 25 ltrs.
Another non-scale model of mine is described here http://www.rcgroups.com/forums/showthread.php?t=462909
In fact the blimp forum of RCGroups would be recommended reading for all flying model airship builders.

That's a great link! Glad to see some interest and discussion on flying airship models. I'll be sure to post a thread pointing over that way. . .
:D
BTW, did you see the HUGE flying model of the R-101 over in Great Britain?

No, I didn't see the R-101 model, although I do know Nigel Wells and I have seen his previous R-100 model.
BTW, I might say now what a great site this is, I have found sources for data and drawings I never knew existed. Just as good for flying scale as static scale models. Well done.
BTW2, I notice I am identified as a 'junior member'. What does that mean? I can't imagine the DOB I gave in my profile could possibly put me in any 'junior' category

Ha! "Junior Member" status is based on the number of posts you've made to date. . .
Glad you're enjoying the site! It is about time we airship modelers had a place to gather online. . .

Hello Alan,
this is a structure inside your R101 model, is it? Did you use crp?
Best, Johannes

Yes, there is structure inside, all balsa wood no crp.

Alan, have you been able to do any more work on a small rigid airship?
your r-100 is amazing especially considering when you built it. i want to try one but im afraid of the frame and covering aspect of it. i think that jap tissue would work but i have yet to get any.
I must say though, that the pictures of your R-100 is what got me interested in building one.

I am currently experimenting on a method of building smaller rigids. Watch this space.
