A member recently wrote to ask me about this. I thought it was an excellent question and so I decided to start a thread on the subject.
If you aren't able or willing to build your own airship model but would like something ready-made that you can purchase to display, what are your options?
Perhaps the best place to start is by posting a request in our Items Available/Wanted (http://www.airshipmodeler.com/forums/forumdisplay.php?f=25) section and see if any of the members here might have a model already built that they could sell you.
I have seen only a few completed models for sale on eBay. For example, there is a company that imports carved wooden airship models from the Philippines I believe and sells them ready to display. These are in the $100-$200 range if I recall correctly.
The largest display model I've seen is of the Hindenburg which I think has a wooden frame and is covered with fabric. It's in the $500 range as I recall, but is available two different sizes to fit a variety of budgets.
Another option might be to commission a custom airship model or have an existing kit built up. If you're looking for a balsa or wood frame model covered with tissue or fabric, only a few such kits are available, and accuracy may be an issue. Having a model built from scratch means you can get anything you want, but it also requires a lot of effort and so it can be expensive.
The bottom line is that your options really do depend on how much money you are willing to spend. :)
