R-100 was a lot of fun to build, but finding exterior photos of her for details was tough. I did take a good look at "R-100 in Canada," which is a good reference, and was also able to get a few copies of reference drawings from the Airship Heritage Trust people in the UK. I didn't try to do too much with coloration, so she's a rather bland silver all around; the real R-100 appears to have had a lot more texture.

These are the only photos I could find of my R-101 model. The prototype was the victim of color errors; I tried some acrylic and some enamel and it just didn't look right. The second version worked out OK, and I used metallic aluminum enamel for the darker areas as seen in photos of the real R-101.

Beautiful models! Is the left-hand one of the R101 before lengthening? And is it card?

The R101 is probably my favourite airship, I simply think she was the most beautiful of all.

Thanks, McTodd. Both models are built from poster board, foam board, and a little balsa (mostly for engine gondolas). The R-101 model is based on her original specifications, before they added the extra bay.

Beautiful work! These are truly gorgeous models, from the photos they look museum quality. Great stuff! :)

I almost wish the real airships had been built using a series of frustums of a cone like most paper models. You'd think it would have been easier to make the real structure that way. It looks pretty aerodynamic to me. :)

Those added photos of R100 are great, MPL. From your other posts (Hindenburg and Macon) you are quite the modelmaker! Sterling stuff, keep it up, and keep posting those photos!
