The board software we use has many useful features. If you haven't used a site like this one you might find some of it overwhelming at first. I wanted to point out some of the better features so you won't miss out on any of the great bells 'n whistles. :)

First, we have some powerful thread tools. Not only is it easy to post (you have lots of options for formatting your message text) but you can also SUBSCRIBE to any thread. This means that anytime someone else replies, you can get notified instantly. This option is available when you post a reply and you can also set it as a preference in your User CP (Control Panel).

If you choose "Instant E-mail Notification" you will receive an e-mail every time someone replies to a thread to which you are subscribing. There is an option box at the bottom of the post thread window. Be sure to select the option you want, otherwise it is turned OFF by default.

You can also enjoy WYSIWYG editing in your posts (depending on your browser), use BBcode, include an avatar, and enjoy private messaging. No html is allowed in any forums.

There is also a powerful Search Engine to help you find what you are looking for. You can search just one forum, or you can search across the entire site -- it just depends on which link your choose. The Search link at the very top of the page searches across the entire site. If you look below that while in a thread or forum there is a second link that searches at the forum level. (You can also search inside a single thread.) Since all site content is in one forum or another, every single bit of info on the entire site is searchable!

Best of all, we have attachments! Please keep in mind that this hobby site exists on an economy Web hosting plan so we must limit the size of attachments as well as the quantity allowed per member.

Enjoy the new features! And post any questions or comments here in this forum.

Hey Charles,
Noticed recently that the icons on the main page have changed. They used to be a flashing circle if there were new posts. No it is the bulletin board with one letter (Forum Contains No New Posts) or the bulletin board with two letters (Forum Contains New Posts). Did I inadvertantly change something in my setup? Or is this a global change on the board? I kind of liked the blinking "light". It is a much stronger visual signal that you can tell immediately where there are new posts.

THX,

Mel :)

Well, I just performed a major site upgrade yesterday, so it's possible some things got overlooked. I'll re-upload the graphics and see if I can fix that. Thanks! :)

I just checked and I am getting the correct graphics. Please try clearing the cache in your browser. Does anyone else have an issue with this?

I noticed this too, starting yesterday. I also noticed that I can't view anyone's profiles. When I try, it takes me to the visitor message console instead. I haven't cleared my browser cache yet, since my computer hangs when I try to do that.

I'll try loading the site in FF and see if things work right then.

[EDIT]

In FF, the icons are still using the bulliten board style, which does not bother me any. Still easy to see when there are new posts because not only are the two pages stuck to the board in the icon, but it's also in color. No new post and the icon is B&W.

I also get the visitor message console in FF as well, and I'm thinking this is actually part of the upgrade. Looks like everything from the profile is still there, it's just now broken into several tabs.

OK, the custom indicator graphics are now fixed. Please CLEAR THE CACHE in your browser and refresh the page to see the new graphics.

Thanks! :D
