For newcomers, here is a little background on what this site is and why it's here:
WHO WE ARE
AirshipModeler.com is a community for anyone interested in airships, but, of course, especially for those interested in modeling airhips. Here you can gain access to valuable reference material needed for your project and meet other modelers who share similar interests.
My first interest growing up was aircraft and flying and I have always loved airships. Good drawings and blueprints of many of these obscure subjects, however, can be hard to find. Over the years, I have found it challenging to locate more than a few examples. Fortunately, I am an experienced artist and draftsman so it is my goal to create "modeler's plans" for many different airships (as sufficient reference becomes available) and make them available to others via this site. I hope that by creating this new online modeling community that such resources will soon become commonplace!
I created this site mainly to share my own collection of reference material and, by collaboration, build an even larger collection by connecting with others who share a passion for these great ships of the sky. This site was created using dynamic, database-driven software to keep things fresh and constantly updated. Through the many great features offered here, you can now easily post attachments to messages and thereby share images in your collection -- without the need to have Web space or upload anything to a Web server!
Unlike many other modeling sites that focus only on CG or physical modeling, here at AirshipModeler.com we openly welcome both forms of modeling. Those interested in physical modeling will find valuable resources such as reference material, tutorials, tips, techniques, and sources of supply, as well as a place to share images of their projects and gain a helping hand from fellow modelers. Those interested in CG modeling will find some great reference material on many different subjects as well as valuable discussions on just how to create the patterns needed to make their 3D models work.
WHAT WE AREN'T
This is not an airship historical site or a place dedicated to documenting airships from an historical perspective. Of course all airship discussion is welcome, but our main focus is on gathering resources such as reference material to aid modelers who wish to build replicas of their favorite airships.
Since kits of airships are rare (other than a few small plastic models and several paper/card models), most modelers will need to build their own from scratch. This will be a site dedicated to helping those who wish to try accomplish just that.
I personally have little interest in non-rigid airships and balloons (my primary interest is in the large rigids) so I don't plan to research or collect reference material on these. But, of course, you may feel free to do so and share that info here.
I also have no experience with flying models or airships such as R/C blimps. But I have included special sections here in our new community for those subjects so people who wish to discuss them can do so.
HOW WE GOT HERE
AirshipModeler.com is a new modeling community founded in March, 2006. After searching online for websites devoted to model airships and finding almost nothing, I decided it was time to create a new site dedicated to this much neglected "niche" of the modeling hobby.
We are proud to run on vBulletin software which is used to deliver a dynamic, searchable site with easy to use features that encourage people to interact and share information online.
